The CU2 building spans 4,200 square feet and was constructed as part of the Stratospheric Balloon Base expansion project at the Victor M. Power Airport in Timmins. Operating as a collaborative partnership between the Canadian Space Agency and le Centre National d’Études Spatiales, the Stratospheric Balloon Base serves as a launch site for stratospheric balloons, gathering data for scientific research, climate studies, atmospheric measurements, and more. The building stands at a height of 40 feet and includes a 4-tonne capacity overhead crane that is suspended from its roof structure. Additionally, the contract entailed constructing an addition to an existing building on site to accommodate a new elevator.
